About Me
I am an instructional designer with a background in museum education and teacher professional development. I design engaging, inquiry-driven learning experiences that help educators translate complex content into meaningful classroom practice.
I design learning experiences that are structured, engaging, and built for real-world application. The online and in-person learning experiences I develop combine learner-centered design, collaboration with subject-matter experts, and thoughtful use of multimedia.
My Design Process
Throughout my career, I have excelled in roles where I assist others in learning. From teaching middle school history to working in museums, my main goal has been creating relevant and engaging educational experiences. Designing and delivering both online and in-person professional development programs for teachers has shaped my approach to instructional design.
-
I begin by identifying what learners should be able to understand, apply, or do after the experience. These outcomes guide the structure of the course, ensuring that content, activities, and assessments are aligned and purposeful.
Example: In the Voices of the Past course, each module was built around an essential question tied to historical thinking skills, guiding both content and application.
-
I work closely with historians, educators, and content experts to translate a range of subject matters into accessible, engaging learning experiences. This collaboration ensured both accuracy and instructional clarity.
Example: For ClassSpark courses, I partnered with content experts to develop and refine video scripts and ensured each video balanced historical accuracy with clear instructional goals.
-
I design learning experiences with a clear progression, moving learners from foundational understanding to active engagement and application. I incorporate opportunities for interaction, reflection, and practice throughout.
Example: In my online courses, modules are scaffolded to include content exploration, primary source analysis, discussion, and application-based activities. -
I use multimedia such as video, primary sources, and interactive elements to enhance learning, not distract from it. Each element is selected and designed to support clarity, engagement, and accessibility.
-
I continuously refine learning experiences based on participant feedback, engagement patterns, and instructional goals. This iterative process ensures that courses remain relevant, effective, and responsive to learner needs.
Example: In my professional learning programs, I use participant feedback and engagement data to adjust pacing, activities, and content for future iterations.
